Because they get Dirty!

Several factors increase the need to clean them in addition to normal accumulations of dust and dirt:

  • Pets
  • People with allergies or asthma
  • Cigarette or cigar smoke
  • Water contamination or damage to home or HVAC system
  • Home renovation or remodeling
Two ways to inspect the ducts of your heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system:
  • A small mirror or flashlight
  • A digital camera

If you see dirt and debris then you need your ducts cleaned!

Two Important Facts to Know About Duct Cleaning:

The National Air Duct Cleaners Association or NADCA and The Environmental Protection Agency or EPA recommends that the entire HVAC system should be cleaned.

Duct cleaning is not a trade that is regulated in the State of Maryland.

This means that anyone can perform this service with absolutely no experience, certifications or training.  So it should be a priority to find a NADCA certified contractor.

The NADCA and the EPA recommends that the entire system be cleaned including:

  • Supply/return air ducts
  • Registers
  • Grilles and diffusers
  • Heat exchangers
  • Heating and cooling coils
  • Condensate drain pans (drip pans)
  • Fan motors/fan housing
  • Air handling unit housing

NADCA members must have the following:

  • At least one Air Systems Cleaning Specialist on staff
  • Maintain $500,000 of liability insurance
  • Agree to clean according to NADCA standards and comply with their Code of Ethics.
